In downtown Milwaukee there’s a giant new arena that’s hard to miss, the Fiserv Forum is giant and it has an odd design that reminds me of modern house built in the 1970’s with it’s wood paneling and walls of windows and in the little plaza across the way are a suite of brand new places. There’s the Drink Wisconsinbly Pub (including a to-go drink and snack window,) Punch Bowl Social, The Mecca Sports Bar & Grill, and Good City Brewing just opened their downtown location. They have a huge space with lots of seating inside, and a gorgeous patio.
Good City Brewing Downtown is even brewing single pilot batches in house of unique beers that you’ll start seeing on tap soon. I had to get their BFG barley wine, a beer ringing in with a 11.5% ABV that tastes incredibly smooth.
While Good City Brewing’s big draw is their pizza, they have quite the extensive menu. You’ll find burgers, chicken sandwiches, po’ boys, mac and cheese, fish & chips, salads, giant pretzels, and more. I had to go for a wood fired personal pizza, and it was incredibly hard to decide between the 10 pizzas on their everyday menu, half on an ages white cheddar sauce, half on a crushed tomato sauce or the 3 specialty pizzas of the night (Morocan, gumbo, or BLT.)
I ordered a simple sausage pizza ($15- Aged white cheddar sauce, italian sausage, oregano, roasted red peppers, and basil) and while ordering a sausage pizza might sound like an incredibly boring choice, it was absolutely phenomenal. The bold flavor of the cheese sauce worked perfectly with the italian sausage and oregano. These might be labeled as a personal pizza, but I feel like they’re big enough to share.
I was only able to eat a few pieces of the pizza, because I had to order curry fries ($6 – Crispy fries dusted with Good City curry spice and served with a side of garlic mayo) and I have no regrets. These were some of the tastiest fries I’ve ever, the curry flavor wasn’t overwhelming and perfectly complimented the fries. The garlic mayo was a perfect addition. Honestly, I think I ate half of the little skillet of fries before I realized that I should probably try some pizza too.
Good City Brewing Downtown is a place where the beer isn’t the only thing that’s good, the wood fired pizza is phenomenal and I’m currently daydreaming about those curry fries. Visit Good City Brewing Downtown at 333 W Juneau Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53203.
