If you find yourself in Madison with a group that can’t decide what they want to eat, there’s only one place I would go. The Great Dane Pub! Plus, they have multiple locations in the area, even one restaurant in Wausau. Whether you’re in Madison for a concert, with family or friends, or stopping in for business The Great Dane is such an awesome restaurant. The menu is always rotating and has a little bit of everything.
The burgers are epic, it’s hard not to order the Texarkana (7 oz. fresh beef, sharp cheddar, BBQ sauce, bacon, haystack onion, chipotle cream cheese, brioche) that Chipotle cream cheese paired with barbecue is the perfect combination to create a truly decadent burger.
If you want the most Wisconsin food ever you can’t go wrong with the brat & bacon pretzel burger (7 oz. fresh beef, ¼ lb. brat patty, stout-caramelized onion, bacon, cheddar, pretzel roll, side of Peck’s Pilsner mustard) it has every element of a German beer hall-brat, pretzel, caramelized onions, and mustard in each and every bite.
I’ve had my favorite meatloaf here, and we’ve even had items like tacos and Nashville Hot Chicken. Nothing ever disappoints.
I am a little, ok very, sad that they changed their cheese curd recipe. The old recipe created perfectly hand battered cheese curds, and they were some of my favorite cheese curds in Wisconsin, and now they’re pretty average. It means I get the chance to try some of their other apps though like their Bavarian pretzel twist or pub wings.
The beer never disappoints. The Great Dane does a great job serving up classic beer styles with solid flavor. Meaning this is a brewery you can take your dad to. Don’t worry, they have some unique brews for you too. I’m always finding a new brew to enjoy whenever we visit The Great Dane Pub.
I would recommend heading to the original Great Dane Pub in downtown Madison, at 123 E. Doty Street
Madison, WI 53703 it’s a really great venue with a large bar and a great pool hall.
